History

Our organization has been established in 1975 as Finnish Culture Secretaries, but due to fast growth in membership and the expansion in the width of our membership, the name was changed to Professional Association for Art And Culture Management in 1990.

TAKU and Akava Special Branches

In 1991, TAKU ry joined as a member organization of Akava Special Branches Central Organization AEK, which also made it a member of The Unemployment Fund for Higher Educated Employees Erko. The increase in the variety of the work relationships and tasks of the field at the start of the decade required us to address this new demand.

The group of the people organized in the fields of art and culture grew heavily: membership was made simpler, and increasing number of professionals at the performing level also wanted to join TAKU ry as members. The rules and the name were changed to match the actual situation, the concept of cultural management was replaced with the cultural field, and the current Art and Culture Professionals’ Trade Union TAKU was born.
