Studio Aleppo [Helsinki] and Flow Festival production team were awarded at SULA

The Art and Culture Professionals’ Trade Union TAKU awarded the producer and production of the year for the 6th time. The winners were announced 12.10.2017 at SULA conference in Helsinki.
Emphasizing the importance of art and culture
TAKU wants to highlight the makers that create new meanings and interesting content on the field of art and culture in Finland. As a trade union we have important task supporting professionals and emphasize the importance of art and culture in the society.
During the fall we received multiple interesting suggestions for both categories, the producer and the production of the year. This year a a jury of professionals gathered to evaluate the proposals that were sent anonymously to TAKU and the board made their decision collectively by evaluating different factors.
The head of jury, Mari Lankinen works as an Artist Manager at Fazer Artists' Management Inc. and is also the chairperson of the TAKU Board. Other members in the jury were Riina Kotilainen, cultural producer and Executive Director of the Turku Artists' Society and Executive Producer of Oulu Music Video Festival and a longtime event organizer and DJ Juhani Oivo.
The producer prize is worth 1 000 € and the production of the year prize 1 500 €.
TAKU's Producer of the year - Flow Festival production team
Producer of the year has demonstrated its competence already in the past; developed their activities, taken note of the feedback they received, and managed to offer experiences to a large number of people. This year, they had to face specific challenges due to difficult circumstances and the TAKU's jury pointed out that they clearly identify the importance of acting together as a team; their jointly-made choices and solutions show a professional, dedicated way of operating in a good work community.
The award was received by Maiju Talvisto, Flow Festival's Artist Coordination manager, together with the production team.
Flow Festival is an urban music and arts festival in organized in Helsinki since 2004. The music presented at Flow Festival is a varied selection of artists from indie rock to soul and jazz and from folk to contemporary club sounds – from both the Finnish and the international scene. In addition to music, Flow Festival is about urban spaces, visual arts, film screenings, talks, design as well as food and drinks. The event takes place at a defunct Suvilahti power plant and its industrial surroundings in downtown Helsinki's immediate vicinity.
TAKU's Production of the year - Studio Aleppo [Helsinki]
Production of the year aimed to change the image of refugees and migrant people among the society in a positive way by using the transformative power of arts. It was hosted by National Museum of Finland: a perfect platform to discuss questions like nationality, the relation between story and history, the relation between history and nationality and so on.
The award was received by Producer of Studio Aleppo [Helsinki], Ceyda Berk-Söderblom and General Director of The National Museum of Finland, Elina Anttila.

MiklagårdArts is an initiator, facilitator, and connector between Finland and overseas markets with the aim of strengthening the cultural interaction and intercultural collaborations. MiklagårdArts was founded by an experienced Turkish cultural manager and an established Finnish artist in September 2015 for creating tailor-made ideas and promoting interesting, chosen projects in varied genres of art fields. The two initiators decided to join forces to pour their versatile know-how to be a new platform for promoting exchange between the Nordic countries and the dynamic art scenes in South East, Middle East and the Far East. MiklagårdArts takes as a goal to build alternative paths in reaching out for the diversity of the dynamic artistic scenes also elsewhere. Unlike more traditional practitioners, MiklagårdArts works directly to influence audience opinion within targeted segments through artistic meetings.
SULA - Sustainability and Love for Arts conference was held for the first time in Kaapelitehdas, Helsinki 11.-12.10.2017. This sizzling hot professional event is made for creative and art professional teams, entrepreneurs and single talents and presented a wide variety of interesting and inspiring stories about surviving in the art and creative sectors.
